Lyric Music & More: December 1

Today we join people all around the world to kick off the charitable giving season by contributing to organizations and causes that are important to us and working together to improve our communities. When you make a gift to Lyric in support of #GivingTuesday we'll put your donation to work by continuing music education programs with community partners like the Chicago Urban League, virtual public programs inspired by Jeanine Tesori and Tazewell Thompson's opera Blue, and continuing to expand to our virtual performance experiences including Pasión Latina, Breaking Down the Score, and Master Classes with Sir Andrew Davis.

Of course, your donation also supports the incredible mainstage opera and musical productions that bring everyone together. Some history behind a complicated relationship

Good art inspires great discussion, and with the funding we receive from our donors, Lyric can provide opportunities to dig deeper into complex subjects. Inspired by Lyric’s premiere of the opera Blue, Roll Call is a virtual panel discussion focusing on the evolving relationship between the Chicago Police Department and our city’s Black communities.

Episode 5: Chris Reynolds

Step behind the scenes as Music Director Sir Andrew Davis leads a series of one-on-one master classes focused on one of his favorite operas: Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro with members of the 2020/21 Ryan Opera Center Ensemble. In the final episode of the series, hear first-year pianist Chris Reynolds play the Act 1 Overture and Act 2 Finale.

Part 9: Finale Primo

Attila and his warriors are marching on Italy’s capital when they are stopped by a procession of women and children led by the Bishop of Rome. Attila is terrified as Bishop Leo speaks the same words as the ghost from his nightmare, telling him to turn back. The mighty conqueror is brought to his knees as Act I comes to a dramatic close in Verdi’s thrilling early opera.
